DSC Member: Carmen Brancato, Road Warrior

Feature-Carmen

Drifting, street racing and Vin Diesel–that’s what usually comes to mind when we see American Muscle speeding down the road, but when Carmen Brancato’s 1969 Camaro SS hits the interstate, it’s all about charity. After a humbling visit to the Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas got Carmen thinking about giving back, he teamed up with the Wounded Warrior Project and Arizona Designs to give his ride an army-themed makeover. Since then, Carmen and his Camaro have spent 6 years traveling the U.S. to raise money for troops.

On teaming up with the Wounded Warrior Project: “My sister is an Army nurse, so that’s where I had the chance to meet wounded warriors for the first time. I saw their determination and knew that I had to do what I could to help in any way. As I was flying home from Texas, I designed a military themed graphic for my Camaro, called the charity to get permission to use their logos and decided to drive the car all around the country.”

On stopping around the United States:“I like attending military events of course, but I also enjoy displaying my car at Nascar races and country music concerts. Those fans are the most patriotic people around.”

On fresh paint jobs: “I change graphics every two years, and my personal favorite is the night vision theme. The car is pretty mean looking.”

On meeting veterans: “I meet veterans that have benefitted from the charity everywhere I go. All of the wounded warriors have left an impression on me, it’s such a selfless sacrifice. I’ll keep volunteering my time and efforts to the Wounded Warrior Project as long as they’re needed.”
