Is Eating 3k Calories and Burning 1k Equal to Eating 2k Calories?

In the not-too-distant future, when you’re bred in labs for maximum efficiency and unparalleled servitude, it’s probably safe to rely on machines for data about how many calories you consume and burn off in any given period. Until then, however, it’s hard to say exactly how many calories vanish when you cap off your 10-mile run with a burger and fries.

For a couple of reasons:

  1. It’s hard to know how many of the calories you consume are actually absorbed—i.e., different foods affect people differently.
  2. The tools you probably rely on to measure your activity rate are flawed.

That said, there’s still a strong link between what we eat, how much we exercise and how much we weigh—even if it’s an inexact science. Which is why it’s important to find a healthy eating plan that you like, and some physical activity that you enjoy on a regular basis.

Otherwise you risk looking more like a pre-experiment Steve Rogers than a perfectly engineered Captain America.

There’s no such thing as a stupid question—especially when it comes to your body, your health or your hygiene. Send us the things that you’ve always wondered about to bm@dollarshaveclub.com.
